Countdown: This is It

The Great Italy Countdown is finished. By the time you read this, I will be either in a plane or actually in fair Italia. So, my dear friends and family and club members...
So long. Farewell. I'll miss you all. I'll think about you every day (for the fifteen days I'm actually there. So that's fifteen times.) No, really, more than that. I'll take video, and write about it, and take pictures. If I happen to come upon a computer with Internet, I WILL post something on the blog.
Like I said, Raistlin's in charge. If he does a bad job, you can get rid of him after one week. That's SEVEN days, all right? He has until next Tuesday morning to prove to you that he can be a good vice president.
Tiger, I was hoping to see your finished post on A Text to Save the World, but just finish it for me before I come back, okay? Dreamer, try to finish Chapter 3. Raistlin, do a good job as vice president in charge, all right? Horse Love, write about all your horses. And Tonks...do whatever Tonks does.
Here's one final song. Two, actually, but one you have heard. Here's the first one. It's called The Way Back, and it's a song sung by Ethan and Aaron and possibly James. I can't really tell.
And then, here's song #2: It's "Come Back Jimmy" again, because it's about Jimmy Barclay leaving, and I'm leaving. And because I LOVE the song.

This is it, everybody. Love you all. Hope you have fun while I'm gone. Sorry I didn't get a video to Tiger and Horse Love for the McClains, but there's a new page on here if you look under "Pages" just above the Archive of Awesomeness that has a picture of me and a short bio. By the way, Tiger, can you write my bio for me? I tried to, and it sounded weird. Besides, it's better if you write it, and not me.

Once again, in the insurmountable (look that one up) words of Ethan Daniels...
"Goodbye! Goodbye! Goodbye! Goodbye! GOODBYE! GOODBYE!!! GOODBYE!!!"

A Not-Too-Lengthy Description of A Text to Save the World

Ahem. Here is a not-too-lengthy description of A Text to Save the World.

It all began with a girl named Simile. As she was growing up, she never really had a home. She was going from foster home to foster home, because no one really wanted her. Thus, she grew up hating the world and everyone in it. (But mostly the foster parents.) She had a plan to save the world, and make everyone respect her. Her plan was to implant a cure to any sickness in the world into a child, because it could only live in a living person. This could only be done once, because she used a mineral in the ground that was purely unique. But the government tested the cure, and found out that it was also a very powerful virus that had no cure. If it was inserted directly into the bloodstream, then it was a virus. And if it was drunk, then it would cure any illness -- or virus. (Including itself. But nobody knows that. Not yet, anyway.)
So, Simile was kicked out of the government. She vowed revenge, blah, blah, blah.
Meanwhile, a very special boy was born. His name was Fred. (For lack of a better name.) We'll call him Notch, how about that? He grew up in a very hard place where he could only depend on himself -- otherwise known as Area 51. I'll defer to President Fantasy's backstory of Notch.
Okay. Back to Simile.
I defer to President Fantasy's explanation of the experiment, EXCEPT for that I think...Yeah, I defer to it. Never mind.
  Okay. Flicker time!!!
As the book begins, Flicker wins the hearts and minds of the natives, and they dance around him, going, "HO ho ho ho! HO ho ho ho!"
  Or not.
In very fast summary, Flicker thinks Notch is the bad guy, and he thinks Simile is the good guy, until he learns the truth that Simile is the bad guy and helps Notch defeat Simile. (A note from the typer, aka President Fantasy: I'm going to elaborate on this, guys. A lot.)
  The end.

My Long Summary [I am writing more now...]

This is my REVISED long summary of  A Text to Save the World.  If you don't like it and it makes no sense what so ever, comment. If you do like it and it does make sense, comment. President Fantasy, if mine is too much like yours, comment.  So COMMENT,  please.

 Here it goes...                                                   My Summary

There was a girl named Simile. She was a bright, clever child. She had ideas that surprised everyone. Brilliant ideas. When she finished college, she wanted to go into the government; to put her genuis ideas to good use. For a while, she was a hard worker- spewing out ideas as fast as people could use them. One time, she went too far. She had discovered a very dangerous virus [the kind that get into your body Not the one that is on a computer. ]One that could cure seemly uncurable diseases. The government said it was full of too much danger. It could kill millions of people, if it was used a tiny bit differently than the plan said. If it was made wrong, it could send the viruses it was supposed to kill into your body. Some could spread to other people if you had it. So they shunned her. Disposed of her. Whatever phrase you like best to use to get rid of something.
After that, she vowed her revenge. She would build this thing, and be praised for her work forever. But she decided that she couldn't build it herself. She needed someone that was as smart as her, and would be willing to work under the government's over large nose. Enter Notch.
Notch was clever child as well. His father was an army man, and he worked with highly nuclear bombs [not the atom bomb!] and he couldn't have a child underfoot. He told his wife that he couldn't let his own child get to know  him. If his son touched something dangerous, boom. No more base. Everyone go bye-bye. And he would be blamed. Besides, he had never wanted a child. His wife was better, but she wasn't so keen on the idea ethier. Another reason he didn't want a child was that he was always at the base. He couldn't deal with his son all the time. So his wife took care of him, but she didn't really love him. She LIKED him, but he was too different from her to make her love him. He was... abnormally smart. Too eager to learn everything. So she raised him to never know about his father. He was allowed at the base, but he could never talk to anyone. He needed his wits to survive the toughness of the army camp. He wasn't allowed to touch anything, and he couldn't do one thing wrong, otherwise he would have to go back home. Finally, Notch grew sick of it. His mother had never loved him and his father never cared. So he ran away and met Simile.
Finally, there was someone was like him! He willingly agreed to work for her. After all, the government was his enemy. They had gotten his father never to see him; keeping him at the base all the time and not letting him help out with the army things at the camp. So Simile trained him, and made him do countless jobs. He didn't care. Here was a women who liked his hard work! So, he started helping her. Only... they didn't count on one thing. Enter Evan Peterson.
Evan was a really nice guy. He also worked for the army as well [ I am noticing a lot of government in this story], and he had a child and wife that he loved. One night, he got a phone call. It was from a a person called " Notch". He was asking for a very dangerous serum. Evan knew it was someone that could be league with someone who disliked the government. So he said he would deliver it in person. Notch didn't know that he was in the army, AND that he was an important man too. When Notch got the door, Evan came in and started asking question. Nosy questions. so Notch took one a wrench and knocked him out.  Evan was moved away to an empty warehouse far away. Notch didn't realize that Evan was waking up. He heard Notch talking to himself, and at that moment, Evan and Notch became enemies.
After that, they battled and brawled, planned and schemed, but still, Notch and Simile were building the object. Evan was always trying to see what they were creating, but Simile made sure that they worked in secret. Finally, after many delays, the virus was built. Evan was devastated. He had failed. Though- he didn't give up. He got to their warehouse and tried to stop them. Little did he know that Simile was done with Notch. She had to "get rid" of him, else he could spill out what she had built. So she left them in the nuclear plant, and told Notch to touch nothing until he found the biggest bomb in the house and disable it. Then he could touch whaever he wanted. Notch didn't belive her for once. He had seen what these could do. So he didn't touch anything. But Evan thought Notch had the dangerous weapon, and so he attacked him. Notch was blown backwards into an explosive. Boom. As the building was coming down, Evan realized what he had done and threw Notch out of the building, saving his life but ending Evan's.

I will finish this later. Hope you like it!

Countdown: 2 Days

I'm going to cut to the cheese here. ENOUGH stupid introductions. Guys, remember...you have until Monday night to write your lengthy A Text to Save the World. So far, I haven't gotten anybody writing...I'm going to be gone on Tuesday. I'm leaving at 8:15 in the morning. And, ah, number one, if you have read my lengthy description...PLEASE comment. It is utterly necessary for you to comment. If you don't, then I'll have to assume that nobody has read it or been on the blog. I'm sorry, guys. I really appreciate you all reading these posts...but it is necessary, because we need to figure this out. We have a total of one day. So...Okay.
That aside, just in case I don't get to write a post tomorrow, or see any of you...Goodbye, fair friends! I leave to the fair land of Italy, on a fair airplane, and have a lot of fair fun.
Raistlin's in charge. Please give him a chance. Hold him accountable for mistakes, but don't be too hard on him. If he doesn't once go on the blog the entire week, or if he's horrible, then you can get rid of him after one week.
Not from the club. Just from being in charge.
-President Fantasy
P.S. You've got a day...remember, you looked me in the eye and said you would...
I'm watching you...

Countdown: 3 Days

Hello, hello, hello, everyone! (To quote from Ethan Daniels.) I'm here once again with the Great Italy Countdown! I will be gone for two weeks on Tuesday, and then, Raistlin will be in charge for those two weeks. I expect you all to behave yourselves...don't get into trouble...
All right, so. We all know that on Saturday I gave you a commission: Give a lengthy description of A Text to Save the World, including ideas for character and plot. Well, I never ask my club members to do something that I wouldn't do myself, so here is my lengthy description of A Text to Save the World. Remember, these are ideas in my mind. This largely relies on your comments, guys. If you disagree with something, COMMENT, or disagree on your own lengthy description. We're on a time crunch here. We should have a general idea by Monday night, because I'm going to be gone Tuesday morning. It's only tomorrow and the day after that, and then I'll be gone, so we need to finish this up quickly.
Okay...Here's my description.

A Lengthy Description of A Text to Save the World
So, it all started back when a young girl was born and was named Simile...with a last name. (Starling, maybe???) Anyway, she was a bright girl with a lot of talent and a mind for politics. In fact, she was brilliant. She had an idea that could either make the world better, or destroy it. It would start with taking a child and placing into that child the ability to (honestly, I don't know what it could be. Help me out here, guys. I'm stumped. What could she do that would either save the world or destroy it?) However, when she got older, she presented her idea to the government. They thought she was insane. Later, when she tried to get into politics, and run for some offices, they still thought she was crazy. Thus began a lifelong struggle against the government. The straw that broke the camel's back came when she actually tried to perform this experiment. She meant well enough, but she put a child at risk, and the government printed an article against her, and tried to put her in an insane asylum. Simile escaped, and vowed revenge. She would carry out her plan, but it wouldn't be to help the world -- it would be to destroy it. Simile is the exact opposite of Notch. Instead of owing the world, the world owed her.
Meanwhile, as Simile was presenting her idea to the government for the first time, another child was born. He was born to an officer in a military base, where they were developing top secret formulas and weapons. They weren't supposed to have children, but this officer did, anyway, and because he was so important, they agreed to keep the kid around, but he couldn't know or see his dad, so that they couldn't get too attached. But when the father died, the base was at a loss as to what to DO with his son. They couldn't throw him out, or he might tell someone about the stuff inside the base. So he was kept.
Notch (for that's who the child was) showed a strange adeptness at the complicated systems of the base. He had a surprisingly logical mind and a quick brain, but an eerie sense of revenge and justice. He drank in everything that he could possibly learn about the base.
  Then, one day, he disappeared.
Nobody quite knows why Notch ran away. If you asked him, he would probably say that he didn't need to be there anymore. He had learned all he could learn. Still, the real reason would likely be that Notch never felt at home there. He never felt at home anywhere, I suppose.
So he wandered. First he attended a college for one year when he was sixteen years old. He was too young for the students and too smart for the teachers, so he quit. He found himself in Washington, D.C., keeping up with the government and waiting around for a chance to do something worthwhile.
It was there that Simile saw the username "Notch" on an online political forum. She recognized his potential, and she hired him immediately as her assistant in gathering everything to perform her experiment on a child once again.
Notch trusted Simile completely on the outside. He harbored some wariness on the inside, but he saw nothing to lose. He had never been wanted. He had nothing to fear from prison, because he could easily figure a way out of jail. And in a way, he wanted revenge for the way the world had always treated him -- like a nerd. (A bit like a certain child to be born later, named Flicker Peterson...but that's getting ahead of myself.)
So, Notch joined Simile. He helped prepare for her experiment. The government realized what “Notch” was doing, and they sent FBI agents after him. Only Notch’s name was connected with the plots of Simile, instead of her name. Notch recognized this, but neglected to say anything to Simile, out of simple respect. When Evan Peterson was sent after Notch, an epic battle ensued. Notch’s brains against Evan’s heroics. Soon after, Simile chose a subject for the experiment -- an orphan named Hope Riley. In the end, when the experiment was ready, Simile took the baby Hope and went out to Indiana, where the whole thing was set up. Evan Peterson showed up, and there was a struggle at the lab out in Indiana. After the experiment was finished successfully, Simile revealed that Notch knew too much, and had served his purpose. She trapped both Notch and Evan inside the building and set some explosives to destroy the evidence.  Evan saved Notch’s life, but in the process was killed himself. After this, Notch had a change of heart, because of Evan's sacrifice. He realized that now he owed his life to Evan Peterson. He directed this into a lifetime's work to save the world that Evan had worked so hard to try and save. He also felt a certain obligation to Evan's yet-to-be-born son, Flicker Peterson, but he considered the best way to help the child was to keep him out of the whole affair. Still, he moved to Chicago to keep an eye on him.
Soon after, he stole Hope from Simile. Hope grew up with "Mr. Notch" as a surrogate father, not knowing her own importance, or that she was the only one who could bring hope to the world.
Then, when Flicker is thirteen or so, the story begins. Basically, in a VERY short summary, (please do put a longer summary on yours. I just spent a lot of time with the back stories, so I want to make this one quick), Flicker is whisked from his normal life by Notch and Hope Riley. All Notch has to say is the mysterious phrase "Don't do it" and a couple of vague pieces of advice. Then Simile enters the scene, along with Xaq and all her other minions. She leads Flicker (and the reader) to believe that Notch is evil and trying to destroy the world. But in trying to defeat Notch, she is actually trying to get back Hope to destroy the world. But after a series of adventures in which Notch seems the standard villain, Flicker realizes the truth. He discovers that the phrase "Don't do it" is actually referring to the critical moment in which Simile asks him to join her again to defeat Notch. Flicker DOESN'T, in fact, do it, and he helps defeat Simile...but she may yet return.
An short overview on Shorty the Gangster: He is basically a comic relief. He's a run-of-the-mill gangster, but without a gang, because he got kicked out of all his previous gangs 'cause he was too annoying and rebellious. So he does under-handed work for money, and constantly does stuff for Notch and Simile, but is always double-crossing both of them. They both know it, but don't really care, as long as he doesn't find out anything important. In the end, he should help Flicker just a bit, proving that he has at least a bit of a heart.

There's my lengthy deal. Again, your summary of the book can and should be longer, unless you spend a great deal of time on the back stories, as I did.
I also have another idea, although it would be very difficult, as we would have to go back and change a lot of things. I kind of don't think Flicker should narrate the story. It narrows down our vision, because we see things pretty much only from his point of view. I think that we should have a mysterious narrator, like in The Name of this Book is Secret. He can tell the story in a unique way, and skip around a lot.
That's about it. Also, here is a song from The Ceiling Fan, but it makes no sense without a little context. Basically, this song is an apology from Phil to Ethan (this is way back) about this April Fool's joke that he played in which he quit the show. Ethan got mad, so Phil made an apology song, put it on a tape, and gave it to Intern James to give to Ethan.
Enjoy!
There you go. May your stars shine bright and don't trust Phil if you meet him on a dark road.
At least until Episode 42 Part 2 of The Ceiling Fan comes out.
  And may that be soon.
