Storyteller’s Creed

I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge.

That myth is more potent than history.

That dreams are more powerful than facts.

That hope always triumphs over experience.

That laughter is the only cure for grief.

And I believe that love is stronger than death.

Website Relaunch

The staff at the Office of Letters and Light is getting ready to relaunch the Young Writers Program website for November! On October 1st, everything will be wiped clean and we'll start anew with a clean slate! There are some things you can do to get ready:

  1. Save your info! If you don't have your synopsis/excerpt/forum posts saved on your computer, it's time to do some copying and pasting. Everything will be deleted except for your writing buddies and your author info, so save anything on your novel info page.
  2. Clean out your inbox. Yep, this is yet something else you can do--clean up your NaNoMail. You won't believe how cluttered your mailbox can get after a couple years of desperately messaging friends for help on plot and characters!
  3. Get back in the groove. Write some outlines. Read some pep talks. Get back on the website. Send out a private message or two. Get a book cover. Get so pumped that you cannot wait for November 1st, and the momentum will carry you all through November!

See you then (and probably sooner),

Preparing for November

Hello, everyone! November is approaching very quickly, and in the meantime, there are some things we need to do to prepare. Here are some things that should be done:

  1. Write a short outline. (Conflict, climax, resolution. I think you all remember this from last year and previous years...right, Tigerr? ;) If you need a reminder, ask me in the comments.)
  2. Fill out the NaNoWriMo workbook online, or order one. I strongly recommend filling this workbook out, since it helps you know your story better than you ever would have otherwise. It also helps you to get your outlining beyond the "Conflict, climax, resolution" phase, which is really just the bare bones. You can find the workbooks at this link: http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/workbooks
  3. Write a pep talk for the NaNoWriMo pep talk contest. You heard me! You could be one of this year's NaNoWriMo pep talkers! For more info, head here: http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/node/1536710
  4. Fill out the 46 question character questionnaire. These really help to flesh out your characters. Try to fill one out for your protagonist (main character/hero), your antagonist (your villain), and any important side characters. You can find them at this link: http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/files/ywp/nano_ywp_08_chars_ms_0.pdf

We can do this! ;) Fist pump!

Warm regards,
President Fantasy

NaNoWriMo Approaches!

Hey, all! :) Just a quick note to remind you all that, in 44 days, it's going to be NaNoWriMo once again! And the NaNoWriMo's website relaunch is coming soon. That means that, in a couple of weeks, you'll be able to be back up on the website, updating your novel information and adding in all your info!
Got any bright ideas? Need help with a title? Want a book cover? Leave a comment! (Or a post. Those are fun, too.)
See you on the flipside, and for old times' sake, don't trust Phil if you meet him on a dark road! (Though you prob'ly can...unless you're, like, evil or something.)
