Storyteller’s Creed

I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge.

That myth is more potent than history.

That dreams are more powerful than facts.

That hope always triumphs over experience.

That laughter is the only cure for grief.

And I believe that love is stronger than death.

The Awesome Trip to Lake Chelan (of Doo Doo)!!!

Here's my first contest entry. It's my childhood memoir. Put it in Short Stories. And this is my first post! I only post if it does something important.

The Awesome Trip to Lake Chelan!!!
By Calvin Klomparens
Seven kids, faces pressed against the windows of the car, strained for their first glimpse of the gleaming waters of Lake Chelan. When they finally caught that first magical glance at the lake, they all cheered.
Calvin, a hyper little kid of age eleven, said, "I can't believe we're here!"
"It's pretty cool to be at Lake Chelan. Except that there's no computers,"
the oldest kid Caleb said seriously, pushing his glasses up his nose.
"I can't wait to swim in the water," Jacqueline, age nine, exclaimed happily. (Jacqueline seems a lot like Trinity, but is not, we assure you.)
"I wish I'd brought my book along," Sophie, a weird thirteen-year-old, said, tucking her hair behind her ear.
Charity shouted from the back of the van, "Is water! Is water!"
Christian and Ransom said nothing, for they were asleep.
The lake was dazzling, and sparkled with the reflection of the sun, like gold gleaming in the waves. The campsite was full of fun and activity. The big van drove into the campsite, and with very little trouble the Klomparens family found their number 42 campsite, very close to the water. They set up the campsite in less than ten minutes.
Next they went for a swim. Calvin came splashing out after about two minutes and played with Caleb in the sand. Caleb never actually went swimming in the water. Sophie stayed in the longest, because she could withstand cold. Jacqueline could withstand the cold just about as much as Sophie could, so she stayed in just as long as Sophie did. Dripping, wet, and wrapped in towels, they made their way back to the campsite.
They hung their swimsuits up to dry on a conveniently placed branch, and promptly roasted hot dogs for dinner.  They had Boca-Bola and Parq's Poot Peer with the weenies. The Klomparens all fell asleep, thinking of going to the water park Slidewaters the next day.
The next morning they woke up to the smell of hot chocolate in the air. Dad was making scrambled eggs and hot chocolate in his portable stove. (It was a multi-purpose stove.) Jacqueline lost no time in burning her tongue. Caleb said, "No, no, no, Trin -- I'll show you...ouch!"
            Caleb fell silent.
Sophie had been up AGES before everyone else exploring the creek. Calvin was drinking hot cocoa without burning his tongue. Ransom and Christian were sleeping like rocks. (Still in the car. They had never actually woken up.)
Charity, their toddler two-year-old, danced around, saying, "Hot chocowate! Hot chocowate! Eggs! Eggy eggs! Play Wing Awound da Wosie!"
"Okay, Cherry, I'll play Wing Awound da Wosie," Calvin replied, then danced in a circle with Charity, who repeated the rhyme:
"Wing awound da wosie, pocki fuw of posie, ashes, ashes, we faw down!"
Finally Dad said, "Hop in the car, kiddo ma diddos. We're going to Slidewaters!"
"Yes!!!" the kids cried, hopping into the car.
They arrived at Slidewaters in about ten minutes. When they finally walked through the gate, they were greeted by the sight of screaming children, gliding down on the softly beckoning currents of sweet, chlorinated water.
They had a whopping good time and went on lots of slides. Time was lost in a swirling foam of splashes and sliding. Lunch was a small island in this ocean of fun, a moment to take a breath before plunging back into the waves of the Sea of Slidewaters.
Unfortunately, the clock tolled seven. BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! And the Klomparens children had to leave.
They stopped by a drive-in with the best milkshakes in the world! They sat there, throwing french fries to the seagulls, until a guy over the loudspeaker told them to stop. The seagulls were battling the wind, trying to stay afloat. Finally their milkshakes and burgers came, and the Klomparens family had a feast.
"These burgers are exactly the correct temperature and cheese combination to make them...DELICIOUS! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!" Caleb screamed.
"Is Caleb acting strange?" Jacqueline asked, raising one eyebrow.
"Nope. Not at all," Calvin answered, not looking up from his milkshake.
"Oh...so good..." Jacqueline cried, eating twenty million burgers and getting chubbier by the second.
"All right, kiddo ma diddos, time to go!" Dad said, leaping up with lightning speed, tearing into the car, and turning it on in less than ten minutes.
They drove back to the campsite, tired but happy. As they fell into their sleeping bags, thinking of the trip home tomorrow, everyone was thinking the same thing:
This was an awesome trip to Lake Chelan!!!
